GET TO KNOW TIM… THE COUNCILLOR

Tim Tierney has proudly represented Beacon Hill–Cyrville since first being elected to Ottawa City Council in 2010. Over the past 16 years, he has built a reputation for being accessible, responsive and deeply involved in the community he calls home.

From neighbourhood BBQs and Vision Jasmine to the Gloucester +50 Club and his signature Celebrate Summer event, bringing people together has always been at the heart of Tim’s approach to public service.

Tim has been a strong advocate for investments that strengthen the community, including support for the Gloucester Community Food Centre, the Richcraft Sensplex, and the expansion of both the Pat Clark Community Centre and the Beacon Hill North Community Centre. He is also a proud supporter of local schools, sports organizations, community groups and small businesses that help make Beacon Hill–Cyrville such a vibrant place to live.

GET TO KNOW TIM… THE PRESIDENT

In 2026, Tim was elected President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), becoming the first Ottawa-area politician to serve in the role in 84 years.

As President, Tim represents more than 2,200 municipalities from coast to coast, giving a national voice to communities representing over 90 per cent of Canadians. He works alongside municipal leaders and all levels of government to help shape national policies on housing, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, transit and community growth.

The position also allows Tim to bring Ottawa’s priorities directly to decision-makers, regularly working with the Prime Minister, federal ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, provincial premiers, MPPs and municipal leaders from across the country.

GET TO KNOW TIM… THE RESIDENT

When the meetings are over, Tim is first and foremost a family man. He is a proud husband, father of three children and, most recently, a grandfather.

Away from City Hall, you’ll often find Tim at the hockey rink. As a longtime coach and board member with the Gloucester Centre Minor Hockey Association (the Cougars), he has spent years helping young athletes develop confidence, teamwork and leadership.

Music is another one of Tim’s passions. While Nickelback may still make the playlist from time to time, his taste extends well beyond one band.

Tim also enjoys supporting local businesses throughout Beacon Hill–Cyrville. Whether he’s grabbing a coffee at Cuppa Chico, picking up dinner at Adam’s Sausages, or catching up with residents while out in the community, he believes some of the best conversations happen outside the council chamber.

Above all, Tim believes the best part of being a councillor is staying connected to the people he serves. If you see him out in the neighbourhood, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello; he’s always happy to chat.
